2026 New Hampshire AFL-CIO Candidate Endorsement Information

Congratulations on your campaign for public office in New Hampshire!

Every election cycle, the New Hampshire AFL-CIO endorses candidates up and down the ballot who are dedicated to the betterment of workers and their families. These endorsements are then sent to our entire membership throughout the Granite State. There are more than 100,000 eligible voters in union households in the state of New Hampshire. If you are interested in seeking the endorsement of the New Hampshire AFL-CIO, please fill out and submit the questionnaire below.

Once a questionnaire has been submitted we will present it to the New Hampshire AFL-CIO’s Legislative Committee, who will select the candidates for endorsement, and recommend this endorsement to the entirety of the New Hampshire AFL-CIO Executive Council. If the Executive Council votes to approve the Legislative Committee’s recommendation for endorsement, the candidate will be informed of their endorsement by our organization immediately.

We thank you for your engagement in the democratic process and look forward to your response. Together, we look forward to a successful election that will advance the issues most important to union families – jobs, healthcare, and economic security. Please use the links below to be directed to our Google Form Candidate Questionnaires:

2026 New Hampshire AFL-CIO Linda Horan Scholarship Fund

This year, in honor of Sister Linda Horan, the NH AFL-CIO will again award scholarship assistance.  Members in good standing of an affiliated local union, their spouses, children, grandchildren, stepchildren, or legal wards are encouraged to apply. A minimum of one scholarship of $1000.00 will be awarded. Additional prizes may be awarded contingent on funding available.

Scholarship applicants must submit a 750-1,000-word (3 to 4 pages double-spaced) essay on the following topic:

A recent poll conducted by the AFL-CIO found that 88% of adults under 30 approve of labor unions, with a full 90% approving of strikes. As a member of the next generation of union supporters, and using examples from personal experience, what factors do you believe contribute to these astronomical levels of support?

What, specific experiences would you rely on to explain these results?

Essays will be judged on understanding, writing style, and significance to Labor Unions.  Applicants are encouraged to draw on the experiences of their families and communities. Two copies of the essay must be submitted – one may be a photocopy. Any wording that identifies the union member, or the name of the member’s union, WILL BE REDACTED, so please avoid use of such identifying information in your essay.

Those eligible are members in good standing, or the spouses, children, grandchildren, stepchildren, or legal wards of a member in good standing, of unions affiliated with the NH AFL-CIO. The union member must live or work in New Hampshire.

A completed application form must be verified by your local union official and must accompany the essay. Application forms are available from your local union or the NH AFL-CIO, 161 Londonderry Turnpike, Hooksett, NH 03106 (or you can call 603-623-7302).

Applications may be downloaded below.

Traditionally, scholarships have been awarded at the NH AFL-CIO Annual Labor Day Breakfast.  We would like to continue that tradition of honoring the scholarship winners at the annual breakfast, but we are also mindful of the benefit of receiving the financial assistance prior to Labor Day, so checks will be available shortly after the winners are announced. The announcement of 2026 Scholarship Winners will be posted on the NH AFL-CIO website, as well as our Facebook page.

Winners must provide proof of undergraduate enrollment in a college, community college, university, or recognized trade school for the fall semester of 2026.

Essays and application forms must be received by the NH AFL-CIO Scholarship Committee, no later than 4:00 p.m., FRIDAY, August 21st, 2026, NH AFL-CIO, 161 Londonderry Turnpike, Hooksett, NH 03106.
